Consumer Credit Counseling Service

Dear Diary,

Sorry I haven't written in a couple of days! Yesterday I realized how far in debt I was, and that I really needed to do something about it. So I searched the Internet, and I found out that a consumer credit counseling servicecould help me. I had no idea what a consumer credit counseling service was at first, so I read some web sites to learn more. I found out I needed to comparison shop before choosing one, which was cool because...well, HELLO!!! Shopping is my specialty! I mean, I'm in debt from shopping, and I'm a department store buyer. I was even kind of excited about it because it was like shopping, but I didn't spend any money. I was shopping for ways to KEEP from spending money! Isn't that cool?? LOL!!!

Anyway, I read that there were a lot of consumer credit counseling serviceson the Internet, so I might be overwhelmed. But I wasn't since I knew. I just did what I learned--I filled out a bunch of forms. These consumer credit counseling service web sites all have this form that's supposed to help the counselors determine what course of action is for me to take. Then within 24 hours, they sent me their recommendations. THEN I had to compare all those and narrow it down, and then do background checks on the ones that were left. I had to make sure each consumer credit counseling servicewas nationally certified and accredited, that they were in business for a long time and that they were willing to answer my questions--and I had a lot of questions, that's for sure. Oh! I almost forgot! I had to make sure they had a physical street address, not just a post office box. But that's because a lot of fraudulent consumer credit counseling services only have a post office box. I guess that's so they can make a clean getaway if they have to, huh? Who knows???

When I finally narrowed it down to just one consumer credit counseling service I thought could help me, I met with them and they suggested a credit card debt consolidation program for me. They told me I'd be debt free in five years!!! At first I thought that was a long time, but they showed me how long it would take me and how much I'd pay otherwise, and five years didn't seem so long after all! Did you know that a $10,000 credit card debt at 18.5% interest typically takes 32 years and $24,500 to pay off if you don't pay more than the required monthly minimum?? I sure don't have that much debt, but it's all relative, Diary. It's all relative.

The consumer credit counseling service I chose also suggested that I get some credit counseling to go with my credit card consolidation plan. They told me it would teach me how to budget and how to live within my means so I would never have to rely on my credit cards again. And they said it was okay to have credit cards and use them in case of emergency, but if I use them for anything at all, I should try to pay them off IN FULL each month. I don't know if I can do that, but I'll try. I have to give up the credit cards that are being consolidated anyway, so I guess I'll have plenty of practice! Oh well. Maybe it will be good for me.

Well, Diary, I have to go. Talk to you soon! I know there is help for you all. You can be the Russian Debt Girl or the Croatian Debt Girl or any old Debt Girl. I'll share the title. Hey, for you all in the spirit world, there is Christian consumer credit counseling service and guess what, not all things are free, but the free consumer credit counseling service is free so check it out.
