Recently, Oprah got wind of consumer credit counseling services and what they can do for people, and she invited people who have had experiences with consumer credit counseling services to share their stories on her show. Of course, American Debt Girl happily did so, and Oprah invited her to be on the show!

Before she went to Chicago, Oprah's producers sent American Debt Girl a list of questions Oprah would ask so that she could be prepared. When she got the questions, she wrote out her answers. It looked something like this:

O: So, I understand you've had a foray into debt. How did you get out?

ADG: I contacted a consumer credit counseling service, who had experts in credit counseling who knew exactly what I should do. They had a lot of debt management programs to choose from.

O: Have you managed to stay out of debt?

ADG: Yes, I have!

O: How'd you do that?

ADG: Well, the consumer credit counseling experts suggested that I get some consumer credit counseling to go with the debt management plan they suggested. I did, and it taught me valuable skills like budgeting. And budgeting--oh my gosh, can I just tell you Oprah? When you see where you're spending your money without even thinking about it, it is such an eye-opener! Because of budgeting, I now have a savings account, and when I use my credit cards, I make sure I pay them off in full at the end of each month. I don't live paycheck-to-paycheck anymore, and I truly appreciate everything I have. I didn't really need all that stuff I bought that got me in debt. Consumer credit counseling taught me that and so much more.
