Online Debt Consolidation
Recently, American Debt Girl bought a house, just like her sister did. She got a house she could afford on her own, but she took in a roommate, Melissa. Melissa couldn't pay rent for awhile, but that's because she needed debt help. And American Debt Girl was there to lead her in the right direction. Here's a story about Melissa's journey into
Melissa's Story
Melissa was a sorority sister of American Debt Girl's who had fallen on hard times and needed a debt consolidation loan. Melissa married right out of college, just like American Debt Girl almost did, but she caught her husband cheating on her, then he beat her, so she was getting a divorce. Since she married right out of college, and her husband wanted her to be a housewife instead of a social worker, she had no work experience in the real world. All she had was some volunteer experience from a battered woman's shelter. While looking for a job, she racked up some pretty hefty credit card debt. After all, she wanted to be independent of her husband, and she was too proud to ask for help from her family.
Melissa finally got a job as a social worker, but without a master's degree, it wasn't paying much. She could barely afford to pay the rent on her small apartment, let alone make her car payment, car insurance and utility bills. She was putting food, groceries and other necessities on her credit card. While in the process of divorcing, she wasn't getting alimony from her husband, so that was of no help to her at all. Besides, she knew she wouldn't get much anyway. He was a high-powered lawyer--a partner in his firm now. She didn't want his money anyway.
One day while Melissa was paying bills, American Debt Girl called. "Why do you sound so upset?" American Debt Girl asked Melissa. "Has Todd been harassing you again?"
"No," Melissa said. "I just finished paying bills. It's killing me to live on my own. I had no idea! How do you do it?"
"Well, Melissa. It's not easy. When Daddy first cut me off, I got into some debt trouble too. But I enrolled in a debt consolidation program. A credit card debt consolidation program, to be exact. That helped me a lot. Hey--why don't you move in with me? I won't charge you rent until you can afford it, and my place is a lot nicer than where you are now. Besides, I just bought a new computer--you could enroll in an online debt consolidation program!"
